Vishalini: A Prodigy with Highest IQ in the World

The girl in the above picture is K. Vishalini, an 11 years old girl from Tamilnadu, India. Born with speech impairment (most geniuses in the world are) but was overcome with the help of her mother, Vishalini is due to claim the Guinness World Record because of her IQ which is estimated to be around 225.

The only reason why she can't claim the record is because Guinness said only eligible entry requirement is 14 years old. Her IQ is 15 points more than the previous record holder, Kim Ung-Young from Korea (below picture).

Read more about Kim Ung - Young here.

Some of Vishalini's achievements:
  1. Vishalini’s IQ is around 225. It is higher than that of the Guinness record holder, Kim Ung-Yong, whose IQ is around 210.
  2. She has passed Microsoft Certified Professional and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) with more than 90% when she was just 10 years old - a world record again. (The previous record was held by a 12-year-old boy from Pakistan, Irtaza Haider)
  3. She regularly now gets invited for "guest lectures" on Engineering topics at International conferences and by prestigious institutions like National Institute of Technology
  4. Both NITK of Mangalore and Kalasalingam Engineering College are now more than ready to welcome Vishalini. But her parents want the girl to enjoy her childhood for the next three years before thinking of entering a college campus.
Vishalini's parent said that their disappointment now is in the state and central governments who failed to recognize her achievements. Well, to Vishalini, the world of internet is pretty much awesome. Your achievement is just one mouse click away from being recognized by the gruesome governments.

Geek Vs Nerd

There's a difference between geek and nerd and this infographic tells you just that.

Amelia Earhart's Resting Place

If you've never heard of Amelia Earhart's, then you probably didn't know the fact that she was the first aviatrix to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

Earhart's mystery started when both Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan disappeared while trying to fly around the world. Signals were sent from Earhart's plane where she tried to find and confirm the location of Howland Island, which located at the atoll near the central of Pacific Ocean.

There are few theories suggesting Earhart's disappearance and the most likely theory is The Nikumaroro Hypothesis. In this theory, Earhart landed on Nikumaroro Island, survived for sometimes and died on the very same island. She is said to be survived because of several hundreds radio signals sent from the plane, indicating that the plane was on land when the signal was sent. Apparently, the Electra (the plane's name) was swept away by Nikumaroro's strong waves, leaving no visible trace of the plane.

But now, researchers at the International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery are attempting to verify the DNA evidence that will prove this theory when a skull was found by a researcher named Gallagher. The skull, believed to be from females with European descendant, together with 20th century makeup, a compact mirror and few other artifacts were found on Nikumaroro Island in 2007.

There are few speculations on how Earhart's died from injury, infection, eating toxic fish or simply dehydration. Nevertheless, now we can rest assured knowing that the mystery of the disappearance of world famous aviator is solved.

Amondawa Tribe

You probably have never heard of Amondawa tribe, but this tribe has given scientists chaos in their theory that time was deep-rooted in human brain.

Amondawa tribe, is believed to not have the concept of time. The concept of time is so loss that they did not have words for "year", "week", "month". According to Chris Sinha, a professor at the University of Portsmouth, Amondawa people live in a world of events without embedding the time in the event like normal human should, or at least, normal to us.

This people, rather than splitting day into specific part like morning, evening, afternoon or night, they just have two, day or night! Their season is also divided into two, rainy and dry.

Well, living without the concept of time certainly can benefit us in some way, but can you imagine if time does not exist??

The Accurate

For most people, living in constant fear may not be good, and for these people, the watch below might not be suitable for them.

But people in some religion, especially Muslims, they will need this constant reminder because without this reminder, they may fall out of their religion's way of life.

Design by Mr Jones Watches (MJW), the watch, which is called The Accurate, is designed so that the hour hand reads "remember" and the minute hand reads "you will die".

You can get the watch at $157 and for special black edition, $167.

I'm not sure how true is this test, but i think its fun to answer the questions. In Malaysia, i don't think IQ test is compulsory. That is why genius like Adiputra is hard to spot. Again, i think it's fun to know how your mind work once a while.

Engineering Galaxy

Before anything, you should make sure your download speed is high. And watch the video.

The entire star wars galaxy was actually built from scratch and for the first time ever, the blueprints of all the magnificent environment behind this fictional movie is released to public.

More than 200 drawings, 500 photographs of all the blueprints in Star Wars are in this book. Believe it or not, this maybe the only book that tells you how galaxy is engineered.

These pictures are just part of the book. The book, was released on fall 2011 and only 5000 English language copies were printed. With the price of $500, this book may be the only way to save mankind if 2012 doomsday really comes!

Light Artworks

Using your camera, you not only can take a good picture but create amazing artworks like this:

If you are good enough, you can take several pictures of an artwork and stack it so that it looks alive. Something like this:

You can find how to create a light graffiti here.

Sandstone Road

If you drive along the road, i believe you'll see black asphalt which is commonly used as road pavement. As the world now moves towards a greener alternative, Thomas Kosbau and Andrew Wetzler have a great alternative to black asphalt which creates a lot of problems.

The winner of Incheon International Design Award which was organized by designboom in collaboration with Incheon metropolitan city has created road pavement made from sand and microbes. The microbes are used to alter the properties of loose sand and turn it into a stabilized sandstone. The result is a pavement material that is greener and, quoting the designer's own words "mitigating the harmful effect of asphalt."

All the materials and pictures are taken from designboom site.

Viking - The Scandinavian Warriors

From wikipedia, Viking is a term given to Norse warriors, merchants, explorers or pirates who raided Europe, Asia and North Atlantic island during 8th to 11th century.

Ragnarok ( The end of the world ), Yggdrasil ( The mystical tree ), Ginnungagap ( The Great Abyss ) are among what historians believed originated from this tribe. You can read about viking's history here.

As i've shared with you series of information regarding ancient Norse God, almost all of them are wearing a hat-like thingy on their head.

Now, something far amazing than headgear with two horns has been invented. Personally, it's far more attractive and it certainly can drive people off of you.

Matlab Project Underway

I'm currently making a complex mathematical function using Matlab GUIDE. The calculation is about fluid substitution in which the velocity of a seismic wave will differ with varying porosity and fluid saturation. Given a massive amount of data, i try to create a GUI that will read the data, perform the fluid substitution and write the data into new file. This may take a few weeks to be completed but i'll try to fill the blog with new things every now and then. Until then, keep waiting!!

Codes That You're not Supposed to Know

Name Codes

Code Oscar: On a ship, a code oscar means someone has gone overboard. If the ship has to maneuver erratically to handle the situation, it must also send out blasts on the signal so that other ships nearby are aware of the fact that it is about to change its course. It should be noted that ships don’t have an internationally standardized set of PA signals and they can differ from place to place, but this is a fairly commonly used one.

Code delta: can mean that there is a biological hazard – though who knows what that might be on a passenger ship.

Code Alpha: often means “medical emergency”.

Code Adam: was invented by Walmart but it is now an internationally recognized alert. It means “missing child”. The code was first coined in 1994 in memory of Adam Walsh, a six-year old, who went missing in a Sears department store in Florida in 1981. Adam was later found murdered. The person making the announcement will state “we have a code Adam,” followed by a description of the missing child. As soon as the alert is heard, security staff will begin to monitor the doors and other exits. If the child is not found within 10 minutes, the police are alerted and a store search begins. Also, if the child is found in the first 10 minutes in the company of an unknown adult, the police must be called and the person detained if it is safe to do so.
Computer Support Codes

In computer support, a variety of codes can be used when referring to a customer
PEBKAC: Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair
PICNIC: Problem in chair – not in computer
ID 10 T Error: ID 10 T is, of course, IDIOT

Doctor Codes
Dr McNinja
“Doctor” codes are often used in hospital settings for announcements over a general loudspeaker or paging system that might cause panic or endanger a patient’s privacy. Most often, “Doctor” codes take the form of “Paging Dr. _____”, where the doctor’s “name” is a codeword for a dangerous situation or a patient in crisis.
Doctor Brown:  is a code word often used in hospitals to alert security staff to a threat to personnel. If a nurse or doctor is in danger from a violent patient or non-staff member, they can page Doctor Brown to their location and the security staff will rush to their aid. In some hospitals
Dr. Allcome: Serious emergency. “Doctor Allcome to Ward 5.” would indicate that all medical staff not presently occupied are needed. (The Med, Memphis Tennessee)
Dr. Firestone: Fire in the hospital. If a fire’s location can be isolated, the location of the fire is included in the page, e.g. “Paging Dr. Firestone to 3 West” indicates “Fire in or near west stairwell/wing on third floor” (William Beaumont Hospitals, Royal Oak and Troy, MI).
Dr. Pyro: Fire in the hospital/healthcare facility. “Paging Dr. Pyro on ____” indicates a fire and its origin or current location, e.g. “Paging Dr. Pyro on 3″ means “Fire on third floor” (Kaiser Permanente, system-wide).
Dr. Strong: Patient needing either physical assistance or physical restraint. “Paging Dr. Strong …” indicates that any physically capable personnel (orderlies, police or security officers, EMTs or firemen, etc.) in the proximity should report and be prepared either to move a patient who “fell down” and cannot get back up or to “capture and restrain” an uncooperative patient.

Color Codes

Code Black:
- In Australia code black is a personal threat. This incorporates a diverse range of situations including assaults, confrontations, hostage situations and threats of personal injury or attack
- Bomb Threat (Ontario, Manitoba)
- In the military code black is bomb threat or discovery of suspicious package.
Code Gray/Grey
- A combative person with no weapon under HASC suggestions.
- Severe Weather (Cook Children’s Medical Center, Fort Worth, TX)

Code Green
-A combative person using physical force, especially weapons. (some American hospitals)
-Used to indicate an evacuation situation, and can refer to the evacuation of a ward/floor/wing or the entire hospital (Code Green – Stat) depending on the call (Ontario Hospital Emergency Codes, Winnipeg Regional Health Authority)

Code Pink
- Biohazardous contamination of a patient or staff. (Heartland Regional Medical Center)
- Patient is under influence of illegal substances (UK First Aid organisations)

Code Purple
- Australian Standard for Bomb or Substance alert
- Hostage situation or patient abduction (Ontario Hospital Association)
- Emergency department can no longer accept patients; divert incoming cases to other hospitals if at all possible (Canada, also Wellstar Health Group)

Code Silver
- Combative person with a Lethal Weapon (HASC recommendations).
- Violent Situation – Lockdown (Cook Children’s Medical Center, Fort Worth, TX)

Code Yellow
- Missing patient (Ontario Hospital Emergency Codes).

Code Orange
- Used in Ontario hospitals to indicate an external disaster with mass casualties. Lockdown or controlled facility access is often used as part of the response. Volunteers, Families and Students were denied access during SARS Outbreak of 2003.

Code Brown
- Missing Adult (University of Toledo Medical Center) (University of Cincinnati Medical Center)
